  • Goodbye Sarasi and Bridget

This summer, we say goodbye to postdoc Sarasi and lab technician Bridget as they move on to new exciting stages of their lives and scientific careers. We will miss them dearly and wish them the very best! Despite an AQI of 160 due to Canadian wildfires, we had a great lab outing to celebrate Sarasi […]

  • Congrats to Jules Riley ’20 on winning a NSF fellowship!

We just found out that our stellar undergrad Jules (graduated in May 2020) was selected to receive a prestigious NSF graduate research fellowship! She is currently part of the UPenn Neuroscience PhD graduate program, completing her rotations. CONGRATS JULES!

  • condensates.com talk

As part of condensates.com and Dewpoint Therapeutics’ Kitchen Table Talk Series, Carlos will be presenting on ubiquitin-mediated phase transitions in protein quality control on Wednesday, April 28, 2021 at 10 am ET – register here to watch! https://condensates.com/events/carlos-castaneda-on-ubiquitin-mediated-phase-transitions-in-protein-quality-control/

  • Congrats to Tongyin!

Chemistry graduate student Tongyin Zheng’s recent work on Ess1 in collaboration with Steve Hanes’s and Michael Cosgrove’s labs at SUNY-Upstate Medical University has been accepted in Communications Biology!

  • Welcome to Sarasi!

Welcome to Sarasi, who joined our lab in January 2021. Sarasi recently completed her PhD from University at Albany in Albany, NY.

  • BioEssays review published!

Our review essay on the role of ubiquitin (Ub) in modulating phase separation of Ub-binding shuttle proteins was just published in BioEssays! In this piece, we review very recent findings on the ability of p62, hHR23B, and UBQLN2 to undergo liquid-liquid phase separation (LLPS). We review the underlying homotypic and heterotypic interactions that drive LLPS […]

  • Yiran and Holly attend 32nd Gibbs Conference

Yiran Yang, a third-year grad student,  was selected to present a talk, and Holly Jones, a first-year grad student, presented a poster on UBQLN2. Congratulations to both!

  • Jules and Thuy write a preview for Molecular Cell!

Junior undergraduate Julia Riley and postdoc Thuy Dao wrote a preview on the Mittag group’s work on liquid phase separation of SPOP, a substrate adaptor protein for cullin3-RING ubiquitin E3 ligase, and its ubiquitination substrates. See our preview Riley et al. – 2018 and a link to the original paper here.

  • The lab received a NSF CAREER Award!

We received this award to continue our studies of ubiquilin phase separation. Read more about the award here.

  • Stay tuned for updates to lab website!

We have been very busy over the last year. Revamped lab research pages are forthcoming…
